“Between Concrete and Code: Urban Transformation in the Era of Chaos and Technology” - Erez Ella

Erez Ella is the founding partner of HQ Architects, an award-winning architecture and urban design studio based in Tel Aviv. He studied architecture at Tel Aviv University and TU Delft in the Netherlands. Before founding HQ in 2008, he held senior positions at leading international firms, including OMA and REX, where he served as a Principal (2006–2008). During that time, he led internationally acclaimed projects such as the TVCC in Beijing, the second scheme for the Whitney Museum in New York, and the Wyly Theatre in Dallas.
From Tel Aviv, Ella has overseen the design of over 60 projects worldwide, spanning urban planning, cultural institutions, transportation infrastructure, and public spaces. Among his recent works are the Tel Aviv Metro M1 Line stations, transportation hubs throughout the metropolitan area, the Sheba Medical Center master plan, the Sela Auditorium at the Weizmann Institute, and the Ari Kushner Building at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
Erez Ella is also deeply involved in academia and cultural initiatives. He has taught at Yale and Bezalel, co-curated the Israeli Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and currently chairs the Jerusalem Season of Culture.
This lecture is part of the ‘Atelier Albania Open Lecture Series’, organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture and Albanian Association of Architects. This series aims to bring the insights and expertise of international architects to the Albanian audience, highlighting their ongoing contributions to local projects.
