We, designers and leaders of schools of architecture, are aware of the global challenges facing humanity in the 21st Century. We affirm that architecture as a passive and monolithic discipline of thinking is no longer conceivable.
We believe that the role of architecture must be reimagined in light of ongoing environmental, social, technological, and political transformations.
We, coming from different geographical, cultural and institutional backgrounds, we trust diversity is richness and need a common home where this mixture can prosper. We believe that only through open, collaborative and regular confrontation is it possible to formulate shared priorities for research and education in architecture, capable of directing our contribution to the future of the Earth.
In the conviction that architecture will not solve global problems but can makea difference in dealing with humanity's greatest critical issues, we commit ourselves to collaborating in the establishment of a permanent international forum dedicated to the global challenges facing society in the 21st century.
We hereby declare our commitment to:
-actively contribute to the definition of common priorities for architectural research and education in the long term;
-promote, in our institutions and through our networks, the widest possible adherence to the Forum, according to shared and consensus-based modes of operation;
-support establishing an international agenda for architecture as a tool for the care of territories, communities and ecosystems.
